Part 2: The Vanished Village of Varnhold
A Ghost Town Steeped in Mystery
Chapter Synopsis & GM Prep Notes
The bustling settlement of Varnhold has inexplicably transformed into a ghost town. Houses stand eerily quiet with meals left rotting on tables, and the local businesses—from the modest tannery to the brightly painted Waterhorse Inn—are utterly deserted. What at first appears to be a sudden mass exodus quickly reveals signs of a darker, sudden intrusion. The cryptic word "NOMEN" hastily carved into a heavy oak door points toward ancient, simmering local feuds.
As the party investigates the remnants of the town, they will uncover chilling clues left behind by the vanished inhabitants. From half-eaten livestock at the Hogkeeper's Farm swarming with flies to a monstrous spriggan frozen in magical amber inside the inn's common room, every abandoned structure holds a piece of the puzzle. The deeper they delve, traversing treacherous concealed pit traps and investigating a submerged chuul lair beneath the Sellen Ford, the closer they get to uncovering the terrifying truth behind the disappearance.
